Tisbury and District Link Scheme – appeal for volunteers

The Tisbury & District Link Scheme, is one of 43 Link schemes in Wiltshire governed by Community First, a charity based in Devizes.  They urgently need new volunteers and have asked the Parish Council to publish their details.  See below for more information.

The Tisbury & District Link Scheme is a voluntary group which offers a transport and good neighbour service to local people who are in need, perhaps because they are elderly, disabled, isolated and lonely, single parents, or perhaps temporarily in need because of illness.   We cover an area as far as Hindon and Chilmark to the North, Fovant to the East, the Donheads to the South and East Knoyle to the West and everywhere in between.

This essential service provides a safety net for those unable to access services in other ways. The Tisbury & District Link Scheme aims to complement other services, statutory and voluntary.   It operates as a small, independent charitable organisation and all volunteers use their own private vehicles. (Insurance and DBS checks are carried out).

Due to Covid 19, the Tisbury & District Link scheme, along with the other 42 Link schemes, found itself suffering from a large number of our volunteers being unable to drive because of age and or vulnerability.

We desperately need your support in promoting our recruitment drive to find new volunteers across the Tisbury & District Link area to keep this vital service going in these times.   Will YOU be a volunteer?.

The task is not onerous and volunteers can offer as much or as little time as they can afford.    In return they receive a mileage allowance but more importantly the opportunity to meet interesting people whilst offering them a vital and much appreciated service.
