Sedgehill and Semley

The parishes of Sedgehill and Semley are located north of the Saxon hill top town of Shaftesbury, the second highest market town in England. They occupy some 16 square miles of rolling Wiltshire countryside, some of which has been designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

We have a population of some 600 people, in fact you could pick up the whole of Salisbury, relocate it in our parishes and still have land left over. There are 2 churches, a village shop, a pub, 2 village halls, a primary school teaching 130 children, a thriving WI, a pond, 43 public rights of way and footpaths, one of the largest areas of common land in England and 60 or so businesses located within the two villages.

The diverse composition of the business community includes farming, retailing, manufacturing, plant hire, accommodation, leisure, antiques, IT and consultancy, automotive and agricultural  manufacture and repairs, plumbers, electricians, heating engineers and builders. There are 2 business parks employing about 200 people.

In fact all we are lacking are Charity Shops, Estate Agents and Hairdressers, but you will find them by the bucket load in Shaftesbury.

There are excellent transport links, the main railway line to London and Exeter can be accessed via Tisbury or Gillingham both about 15 minutes by car, journey time to London under 2 hours.  Heathrow is about 2 hours by car, other airports include Bristol 1 hr 40 minutes, Bournemouth 1 hour and Southampton 1 hour 10 minutes. There is a very limited bus service.  Ferry connections to the continent via Poole are about 40 minutes.

The purpose of this web site is to inform visitors and residents alike of what is going on and is available in the Parish.  Just click on the links and you will be able to find out everything from functions at the village hall, offers at the village shop and events at the pub. If you are looking for a local business, look at the village links directory.

For the sporting minded it is hoped to include links to Golf, Shooting, Fishing, Cricket, Tennis, Hockey, Swimming, Bowls,Gyms, Horse Riding and Equestrian facilities as the web site is developed, for the time being you can play Boules at the pub.
